About

Why this site exists.

Parents searching at 2 a.m. after a hard birth deserve better than fear, jargon and promises. This site was built to be the page we would want a friend to find.

The problem we saw

Search for a birth-related diagnosis and much of what comes back is written to frighten and to convert: pages that treat every diagnosis as proof of negligence, that quote large sums, and that push a form before they explain anything. Families in a vulnerable moment are poorly served by that, and so are the attorneys who end up fielding calls from people who were misled.

What we do instead

  • Explain conditions from primary sources, in plain language, and list the sources with the date we checked them.
  • Say clearly what is uncertain and what a diagnosis does not mean.
  • Hold medical explanations for clinical review and legal explanations for attorney review before publishing them.
  • Collect nothing from readers, and, when the attorney-connection service is active, collect only the minimum from families who ask for it, with consent that is explicit and recorded.
  • Say exactly how the site is funded.

How the site is funded

The educational content is free and will stay free. The site is sustained, when the service is active, by flat introduction fees paid by participating attorneys, never by families and never as a share of any recovery. The full arrangement is described on How this service works.

Who makes it

A small independent team that builds plain-language legal education sites. We are not clinicians and we are not attorneys, which is exactly why every medical and legal guide here waits for people who are. Our editorial standards describe that process and the rule that no reviewer is named until verified.
